Yarn Bombing

Written by

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet and everyone at Marriner Yarns has got that summer feeling.

The chances are you’re just like us; having a few family and friends over for a BBQ, doing a spot of gardening or simply working on that tan. However for some of you out there, the Great British Heat Wave is seen as a chance to demonstrate your knitting prowess in it’s most exhibitionist and ninja stealth form – yarn bombing!

We never fail to be amazed at the talent, hard work and gumption that has gone into some of the fabulous examples that have been spotted throughout the country. We’ve marvelled at the explosion of colour outside Cheltenham Hospital and been spellbound at the 12ft (yes 12ft!) crocheted spider’s web, under a Bristol railway bridge. Even today we’ve been astounded by the emergence of a huge knitted guitar in Surrey!
We’re sure you’ll agree…

Knitter Tennis

New balls please…that’s new balls of yarn

It’s that time of year again; the sun is shining, strawberries and cream are at the ready and Murray Mountain’s population is growing by the second – it’s Wimbledon! But as the above picture would suggest, the action on centre court has proved to be incidental for this knitting enthusiast.

Long regarded as one of the hottest tickets in town, tennis fans the world over go to extraordinary lengths to get their hands on tickets to watch the world’s greatest go head-to-head, but that didn’t stop this mystery knitter taking along her needles to centre court last year. Watching Britain’s Andy Murray, the yarn enthusiast was a complete contrast to the…

British Wool | Marriner Yarns

With knitting yarn coming in so many different thicknesses, colour variations and textures it’s easy to forget where British knitting began – wool.

At Marriner our very first yarns were wool yarns, spun in a Yorkshire mill back in 1784. Since then it’s fair to say that we’ve moved with the demands of our customers, offering acrylic based yarns to meet current trends. However we’ve always taken a great sense of pride in remaining true to our roots, incorporating British Wool into our range whenever possible.

On a sunny morning in June, we were delighted to be invited along to a…

At Marriner, it’s safe to say that in our 200 plus years of selling yarn, we’ve almost ‘seen it all’. We say ‘almost’ as this week we’ve seen an unprecedented demand for our yarns, in particular our Marriner Mermaid Double Knit 100g.

Sales of Marriner Mermaid have been so rapid, at the time of writing, we’ve now sold out of our Carnival, Pink and Blue Mermaid colours with the just a limited amount of Marriner Sunshine and Pebble remaining on our warehouse shelves. It’s fair to say that our customer’s purchasing of this double…

Since the day our Greengate Mill opened in 1784 right up to today, Marriner Yarns has always had a deep rooted affinity with British wool.

In a global market where knitters are always looking for the best yarns at the most competitive prices, it would be easy for a company to lose track of its roots and forget where it’s come from. However at Marriner we’re proud that all of the wool we use in our wool yarns: Marriner Aran with Wool 400g (£5.50)  and Marriner Double Knit with Wool 100g only use British wool.

Keeping Britain Knitting Since 1784

With over 200 years of supplying the Great British public with yarn, it’s fair to say that Marriner has ‘woven’ it’s way into the hearts of knitting enthusiasts throughout the country.

From our beginnings as a cotton spinning mill in Yorkshire in 1784, right up to selling our yarn online today, our company’s two hundred year history has run parallel with Britain’s love of knitting.

We’re proud to have…
