New balls please…that’s new balls of yarn

Knitter Tennis

“That’s one way of dealing with the nerves, I guess. Or the cold. She’s knitting herself a jumper to warm up with.”

It’s that time of year again; the sun is shining, strawberries and cream are at the ready and Murray Mountain’s population is growing by the second – it’s Wimbledon! But as the above picture would suggest, the action on centre court has proved to be incidental for this knitting enthusiast.

Long regarded as one of the hottest tickets in town, tennis fans the world over go to extraordinary lengths to get their hands on tickets to watch the world’s greatest go head-to-head, but that didn’t stop this mystery knitter taking along her needles to centre court last year. Watching Britain’s Andy Murray, the yarn enthusiast was a complete contrast to the other spectators around her, swapping nail biting for knitting.

“That’s one way of dealing with the nerves, I guess. Or the cold. She’s knitting herself a jumper to warm up with.” Quipped a BBC commentator.

With this story in mind it got us thinking, where’s the most unusual place you’ve seen someone knitting? Have you ever knitted somewhere that’s raised a few eyebrows from those around you? Whatever your knitting tales, we’d love to hear them. We’ll be sure to share some of our favourites with our knitting community in the coming weeks.

Here’s to a great weekend and a great Wimbledon!

Happy knitting!
